Play the best competitive soccer in America’s oldest soccer league:

A Historic League

The San Francisco Soccer Football League (SFSFL) was first established in 1902. Recognized as the best competitive adult amateur league in the bay area and in northern California, SFSFL celebrates its 120th year in 2022.

Its large membership is committed to providing high quality soccer in our local community – from youth to adult level. Members have moved on to play in the Major League Soccer (MLS) to becoming the general manager of the San Jose Earthquakes or head coach for USSF national program. Members also played on the North American Soccer League (NASL) and United Soccer Leagues Pro (USL Pro) or played internationally.

The San Francisco League is older than both FIFA and the USSF programs – thus, a proud and long history of commitment and opportunities. SFSFL is affiliated with the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). Its status qualifies SFSFL teams to participate in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

A Non-Profit that Benefits the Game

The SFSFL operates and is managed as a non-profit organization with it’s board consisting of all member teams plus an executive team. The structure of the league allows each team to have a vote. Each team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining league minimum standards. New teams seeking membership into the SFSFL are subject to approval from it members comprised of existing team owners.

SFSFL also provides many opportunities to its game officials.  Kari Seitz, FIFA official says “[t]he domestic leagues and games are really what make you who you are as a referee. Those are competitive matches, so for an assignor to say, ‘I want to give her a chance,’ I had to do my best to get through those challenges. That made me a better referee.”

An Elite Premier Status Recognized by the USASA

League officials and  members have been recognized and honored for contributing to the most beautiful game in the world – a league whose members played professionally, won the US Open Cup and whose game officials have officiated at prestigious events – Youth Disney Classic Tourneys & Development Academy Showcase, PDL, MLS, Women’s Professional Soccer, the Olympics and World Cup. Both game officials and its members have been inducted into the Hall of Fame – a community-funded event.
